Dr. Ed Bauman, President

ed-great-picEdward Bauman, M.Ed., Ph.D. is a ground-breaking and passionate leader in the field of whole food nutrition, holistic health, and community health promotion. He is the founder and president of Bauman College: Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts, with professional classroom, distance learning, and community wellness programs in Penngrove, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, CA, and Boulder, CO. Ed is the editor and author of many books. Ed has been a Foundation board member since 2011.

Gail G. Thomas, Past President

gail-opening-dayGail Thomas has held major management and consulting positions in the public and private sector including Duke University Medical School and consultant to NIH. She has been active in community service serving as Director for Restorative Resources, Rotary, Red Cross, YWCA, and church organizations. Gail has been a Foundation member since 2007.

Chris Castro, Vice President

photo of Chris CastroChris Castro joined the Sonoma West Medical Foundation in July of 2015 after learning that the Medical Center was in need of support from the community.  Chris is a Sonoma County native, growing up in Santa Rosa and later relocating to West County with wife, Nicole.  Chris is a graduate from Sonoma State University and UCLA. He has been in the financial industry for over 5 years and works as a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Santa Rosa.

Philena Chantha, Secretary

photo of Philena ChanthaPhilena Chantha joined Sonoma West Medical Foundation Board of Directors in July of 2015. She brings a wealth of experience in financial services and banking to the Foundation, and currently works as VP Branch Manager for Bank of the West in Sebastpol. With a great dedication to local community service,  Philena also serves as a member of the Sebastopol Kiwanis Club and the Sebastopol Downtown Association.

Bob Gillen

photo of BOB GILLEN, M.S.W., M.P.ABob Gillen, M.S.W., M.P.A, has been a two-term former member and two-year President of the Palm Drive Health Care District Board. Bob was Chief Probation Officer for Sonoma County for 23 years and leader of Sonoma County justice system programs. Bob has been a Foundation member since 2009.

Mark Olson

photo of MARK OLSENMark Olson graduated from San Jose State University with a double major in microbiology and biochemistry and from Washington State University with a degree in pharmacy. He owns Forestville Pharmacy where he strives to deliver personal pharmaceutical care with a special interest in HIV, infectious diseases, and diabetes. Mark has been a Foundation board member since 2011.

Roger J. Pitzen, M.D.

photo of DR. ROGER PITZENDr. Roger Pitzen specializes in both family and emergency medicine. He has practiced in Sebastopol for 31 years and has served as Palm Drive’s Chief of Staff. Currently, he is chair of Palm Drive’s Emergency Department Committee and is a Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Pitzen has been a Foundation board member since 2009.

Dewey Watson

photo of DEWEY WATSON, JD, LLM (TAX)Dewey Watson, JD, LLM (Tax), has practiced law in San Francisco for 42 years specializing in small corporate matters and estate planning and has been a resident of West County since 2009. He has served as President of elected public boards in the Bay Area and as President and member of multiple non-profit organizations spanning the past 40 years ranging from the arts to education. With his wife Susan he is the author of Shift and Shout, a book about moving to West County. He joined the board in 2013.

Marty Webb

photo of MARTY WEBBMarty Webb holds an MA in School Leadership and served the Analy Union and the West Sonoma County Union High School District for 36 years, the last eight years as Principal of Analy High School. Marty is now retired and the Vice President of the Redwood Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he serves on its Executive Board. He is also a director of the Sonoma County Legal Aid Society. Marty has been a Foundation board member since 2005.
